Mel Zachter has been providing audit and consulting services to a full spectrum of not-for-profit organizations for the last four decades. He serves as a key resource and leading advisor to executives, board members and to the practitioner community.
Mel’s extensive knowledge and long-term experience has resulted in his ability to provide strategic guidance to clients that extends well-beyond the purview of an audit. Specialized practice areas include: operational reviews; benchmarking; executive compensation, all issues relating to the 990; and parsonage issues. Additionally, Mel is a leading expert on issues relating to transmitting funds overseas, including compliance with the Conduit Theory, internal procedures and reporting back to the U.S. board.
Mel is also a dedicated and loyal board member at a wide range of not-for-profit organizations. His active role in charitable board leadership demonstrates his dedication to mission-driven and community work and a commitment to providing the essential financial and accounting acumen that permit organizations to grow and prosper. His wealth of experience and personal commitment has provided immeasurable value to the not-for-profit sector. In addition to being honored by individual not-for-profit organizations, Mel was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Michael H. Urbach award, presented by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Council of Community Services in New York State.
Mel graduated from Bernard M. Baruch School of Business and Public Administration of The City University of New York. He received his CPA certificate in 1972 and subsequently completed all MBA courses.
Mel has been with the firm for over four decades. He currently serves on the Executive Committee, the Business Review Committee and the People Committee.
